Darlene H. Bressler 88 Rockford, IL, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at her home of 67 years, in Rockford, after a brief struggle with cancer. Darlene was born in Davis Junction, IL on August 17, 1928 to Ernest and Emma Mizner Nagle. She attended and graduated from Stillman Valley High School in 1946. On August 17, 1947, Darlene married the Love of her life, Glenn A. Bressler at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockford and they had two daughters whom she loved and was always available for them, no matter how old they were. Darlene was a loving homemaker for 69 years and enjoyed sewing, knitting crocheting, gardening, reading and spending time with her family. Darlene loved the color purple, watching NASCAR races, especially Tony Stewart. She and Glenn enjoyed time together watching old westerns and Judge Judy. One of Darlene’s greatest loves was animals, especially German Shepherds and Basset Hounds. She received honorary awards for her work with the Rock River Valley Council for Girl Scouts. She took an active part as a room mother, a Girl Scout Leader, Past Worthy Matron of Forest City Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine, and the Parents Council of the International Order of Rainbow Girls. Survivors include her husband Glenn; daughters, Suzanne Gilbertson-Schweitzer (Dale), Tammy L. Vettore (Bob); brothers, Ernest Nagel (Faye) and Alden Mizner (Audrey); grandchildren, Andrea Gilbertson, Michael Gilbertson (Kim), Timothy Gilbertson (Melissa), Amber Mitchell (Nathan) and Kory Vettore (Kayla); numerous loving great grandchildren and nieces & nephews; predeceased by her father, Ernest; mother, Emma; brothers John, Andrew, Calvin, Herb and Alvin; sisters, Wilma, Irene, Elsie, Florabell and Dorothy. They family asks that instead of flowers, memorial donations be sent to the Arthritis Foundation or Shriners Hospitals for Children. Darlene’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to Journey Care Hospice for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m.on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Star in the East Masonic Lodge #166, 4524 Charles Street Rockford, Illinois 61108.
