Marjorie “Midge” Bond Nagus died peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Born to Marjorie (Stickney) Bond and Orlo William Bond on February 24, 1934 in Karachi, India (now Pakistan – was British India before the partition) and lived in India and New England before moving to Rockford, Illinois. Her father was an executive of Standard Oil Company for 28 years in India. She moved to Rockford in 1950 when her dad became Admissions Director at Rockford College and her mother was Executive Secretary for the YWCA. She attended Bement School in Deerfield, MA, Greenfield, MA public school, Woodstock School in Mussoorie, India (1946-1948), and Northfield School for Girls, finally moving back to the US permanently in 1948. Midge had crossed the Atlantic Ocean 7 times by the time she was 14. In those days they traveled on small freighters, at times taking 48 days from the US to India. She visited places such as Haifa, Palestine; Cairo and the Pyramids in Egypt; Naples, Pompeii, Rome, Pisa and Florence, Italy; Marseilles, France; Cape Town, South Africa; and Dublin, Ireland. She also learned to speak Hindi and Russian. She was a very talented artist who loved to paint, and her favorite subject was seascapes – mostly from her time living in Rockport, Massachusetts. Midge graduated from Northfield School for girls (NMH) in East Northfield, MA in 1951, and Rockford College, Rockford, IL in 1955, with an Art History degree. She was awarded the Alumni of the Year award in 1974. Following graduation, she was employed by Fred Ware Associates; Sears, Roebuck and Co.; Rockford Title Company; and Hughes Communications for 22 years. Midge considered her greatest accomplishment as having 3 wonderful children and 6 beautiful grandchildren. Her engaging manner, lively stories, keen wit and wisdom will always be remembered by her loved ones. She was a member of the Rockford (College) University Alumna Association, Screamers, and the Dolphin Swim Club, and Westminster Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed tracing her genealogy, reading mystery novels, surfing the net, and traveling to Minnesota, Florida, Colorado, and New Hampshire to visit with family. She moved to Minnesota in 2014 to live closer to her daughter, Cindy. Predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Roger J. Nagus on September 30, 2007. She will join Roger and their 2 dogs, Inky and Maggie, on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Those left to honor her memory include her 2 sons, Craig (Jody) Nagus of Longmont, Colorado, and Derek (Kari) Nagus of Port Orange, FL, and her daughter Cynthia (Randy) Nitzsche of Eden Prairie, MN; six grandchildren, Andrew and Michael Nagus, Kelly and Emily Nitzsche, and Olivia and Tanner Nagus, Also survived by sisters Diana Holtshouser and Barbara (Edgar) Nutt, sisters-in-law Donna Nagus, Jean Nagus, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials to Rockford University in Rockford, Illinois.
*Midge wrote most of her own obituary to make it easier for her family at her time of passing. This is one of the many examples of her incredible thoughtfulness. She will always be remembered for her kind, gentle nature, her creativity, sense of humor, and most of all, her love for her family and friends. She will be terribly missed. We also want to give many heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Pioneer Estates in Eden Prairie, who loved and cared for Midge over the last 1 ½ years. Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 29 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Anderson-Long-Klontz Funeral home, 6825 Weaver Rd., Rockford, IL, with private burial at a later date.
