Arthur A. “Art” Hass, 81 ,
Machesney Park, IL passed away on March 25, 2022.
Art was born on August 26, 1940, to Arthur E. and Anna C. (Heider) Hass in Janesville, WI. The family later moved to Evansville, WI, where Art grew up and graduated from Evansville High School. He joined the US Air Force in 1960 and served as a navigator on the KC-135. After completing his military assignment, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, majoring in Accounting. Art then joined McGladrey, Hanson, Dunn and Company in Rockford, IL as a Certified Public Accountant, retiring in 1982 as a partner in the firm.
Following his passion for fishing, Art travelled throughout the US and internationally with his lifelong friends. He was also a kite-flying enthusiast who designed and built many kites to fly himself and as gifts for others.
Art was a devoted Shriner and served with his talent and his treasure. He was the treasurer of the Tebala Shrine for three years and a long-time treasurer of the Tebala Air Squadron Shrine Club. He paraded extensively with the Air Squadron Mini Jets – miniature F-16 fighter jets painted like the Thunderbirds – to raise money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The Shriners promoted Art to the rank of colonel for parading at least ten times per year for five years. Art was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters.
Art is survived by his brother John L. Hass (Mary), Evansville, WI, sister Donna Schuster, Marietta, GA, stepson Michael Poffer, St. Charles, IL, as well as five nieces and nephews and their families. He was loved by many and will be missed.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Ruth Hass, uncle LeRoy (Jack) Hass and several aunts and uncles.
Cremation was handled by Anderson-Long-Klontz Funeral Home in Rockford. A Masonic Service life will be held Sunday, June 19, 2022, at 2PM at the Tebala Events Center, 7910 Newburg Road, Rockford, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Tebala Shrine Center, 7910 Newburg Road, Rockford, IL 61108.
