Glenn A. Bressler M.M. 93
Rockford, IL died peacefully on July 7, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after battling lung cancer. Glenn was born in Monroe Center, IL on February 23, 1926 to Harvey and Edith Bressler. He attended and graduated from Stillman Valley High School in 1944. Glenn married Darlene Nagel on August 17, 1947, they enjoyed a loving marriage for 69 years. Dar passed away November 23, 2016. He had two daughters and was an excellent father and patient mentor to the entire family.
Glenn worked hard his entire life and was proud to be an electrician who showed a great work ethic. He was a member of the IBEW for 72 years. During that time he served as the foreman for construction on Rock Valley College, P. A. Peterson, Rockford Memorial, Cherry Valley Mall and the Byron Nuclear Plant.
One of his greatest loves in his life was the Masonic Lodge. He became a Master Mason on August 11, 1953. He loved being a Mason and held all the values in his heart. Glenn was a Past Master, a Certified Lodge Iinstructor, and a Past District Deputy Grand Master. He enjoyed traveling throughout the Midwest teaching and mentoring young Masons at various Lodges. Glenn was honored to be able to serve as the Northern Illinois District Funeral Coordinator and had the opportunity to serve his fellow brethren after their passing.
The Lodge was such a huge part of who he was and how he lived his life. Greg and Matt became the sons he never had and he enjoyed all his friend throughout his life.
Glenn was also active in the Eastern Star, White Shrine, Scottish Rite Consistory, Rainbow for Girls and Jobs Daughters.
He built the house that he and Darlene spent their entire lives in.
Glenn had a special relationship with each of his daughters and all of his grandchildren. His family was always very important to him. His tools, also, were an important part of his life and he enjoyed creating beautiful things from wood. He was always ready to help his family make anything they came up with. He and Dar loved to go to garage/estate sales and collecting antiques. He also loved his animals and especially, German Shepherds.
He leaves behind his daughters, Suzanne (Dale) Gilbertson-Schweitzer and Tammy (Bob) Vettore; grandchildren, Andrea Gilbertson, Michael (Kim) Gilbertson, Timothy (Melissa) Gilbertson, Amber Mitchell and Kory Vettore; 8 great grandchildren.
Masonic Services followed by memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019 in Star in the East Masonic Lodge #166 / EFW Ellis #633, 4524 Charles Street, Rockford, IL.
