Nancy Coomber Adamany

Nancy Coomber Adamany, 75, native of Rockford, IL; retired educator and administrator; passed away at home on November 20, 2017 from Alzheimer’s Disease. A graduate of Rockford West High School, Nancy earned her BA from Rockford College (now University), her MA from Boston College and her EdD from Columbia University Teachers College, and devoted her career to special education. She served as Principal of Page Park School and in many administrative roles within the Rockford Public School District, Winnebago Community School District, and Elgin Area School District. Her many community leadership roles included serving as Board Chair for the Arc of Winnebago, Boone and Ogle Counties and as an organizer for the Special Olympics Illinois. After her retirement, she continued to pursue her passion for education, training aspiring educators through National Louis University and as adjunct professor at her alma mater, Rockford University.  Married to Anthony Adamany in 1966. Proud mother of Alya (Hal) Woods and grandmother of Henry Anthony Woods. Sister of Philip (Mary) Coomber and Susan (Mark) Besser. Daughter of Mary Ann Varnes and the late Donald Coomber. Granddaughter of the late Doris Trask and Winnifred and Willis Taylor. She is predeceased by several dear aunts and uncles and was a loving aunt to and adored by many nieces and nephews. She will forever be remembered by family and friends for her love of teaching and learning, travel, art and culture, sailing and kayaking, tai chi, cycling, and Scrabble. Memorial service on Saturday, December 16 at 3 p.m., Anderson Gardens, 318 Spring Creek Rd, Rockford, IL. Future interment of cremated remains, Greenwood Cemetery, Rockford, IL.
