Robert “Dick” Goodrich of Pecatonica, IL passed away Wednesday, January 01, 2020 at Medina Manor Nursing Center in Durand, IL.
His funeral will be 10:30am on Monday, January 6th at Silver Creek Reformed Church; 326 S Bunker Hill Rd; German Valley, IL with Pastor Grant Mulder officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, January 5th 3-5pm at Silver Creek Reformed Church 326 S Bunker Hill Rd. German Valley, IL. He will be laid to rest at the Silver Creek Reformed Cemetery; German Valley, IL. Anderson, Long, Klontz Funeral Home, Rockford is handling the arrangements.
Dick was born on a farm in York County Nebraska on March 9, 1924, to Homer C. & Mary (Dick) Goodrich He attended the local one room school house, where he graduated from eighth grade. He then attended the McCool, Jct., Nebr. High School, graduating in 1941.He helped build hangers near the Fairmont Army Air Base for the B29 bombers. When the base closed, he went into farming. He and Berdeen Wussler were married on August 17, 1952, and they farmed in York County Nebraska till 1955 when they moved to a farm near Pecatonica, IL. Dick served as President of the Stephenson Co. livestock producers; served on the Winnebago County Fair Board; served two terms on the Pecatonica School board, and was a charter member of Pecatonica Ambulance Association. He was a member of the Silver Creek Reformed Church in German Valley, IL, where he served as both Deacon and Elder and sang in the men's quartet. Upon leaving the farm in 1975, he worked for Dean Foods in Pecatonica for seventeen years. When he retired from there, he was the Pecatonica Township Assessor for fourteen years. He also worked for Countryman Funeral Home in Pecatonica and Anderson - Long - Klontz Funeral Home in Rockford, and assisted McCorkle Funeral home in Durand.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Evalyn Foster, and two brothers, Eugene and Donald, brother-in-law, Willard Foster, two sisters-in-laws, Ruth Goodrich and Nancy Goodrich, two nephews and a niece. He is survived by his wife Berdeen of sixty seven years, son Bob (Michelle) Omaha, NE, daughters, Janice (Lyndall) Cuba, Downs, IL, and Mary (John) Pieper, Rock City, IL, seven Grandchildren, Shelby Goodrich, Grant Goodrich both of Omaha; Jessica Cuba, Downs, IL; Lindsey (Aaron) Yount, Towanda, IL; Landon (Katlen) Cuba, Carlock, IL; Phil (Megann) Pieper, Dakota, IL; Hannah (Jesse) Jansen, Rock City, IL; six great grandchildren; Gabriel Mikkelsen, Jameson Cuba both of Carlock, IL; JP Pieper, Jed Pieper both of Dakota, IL; Lucas Jansen, and Henry Jansen, both of Rock City, IL., two Sisters, Anna Marie (Roland) Hall of McCool Jct., NE, and Carolyn (Delvin) Roper of Grand Island, NE.; many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Silver Creek Reformed Church Youth Ministry or Pecatonica Emergency Ambulance Service.
He loved God, his family and enjoyed being around people in the community. He was especially proud of his 6 great grandsons. His one-liners and quick wit will be missed. Special thanks to OSF Palliative Care and OSF Hospice for their compassionate care and concern.
